教会のリーダーのひとりが 教会の呼称として 正式名称を使うようアドバイスしたことは知っているのですが…
正式名称が長く使いにくいため、一般的に 「モルモン」や「LDS」といった略称が定着しているのが現状です。
そこで わたしは、教会名を『The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints』から、『The Latter Church with Jesus Christ’s Saints』に変更することを提案します。
略称「Latter Church」は 教会の理念をシンプルに伝え、従来の『of Latter-day Saints』から『with Jesus Christ’s Saints』への変更で、伝統と現代性の融合を目指しています。
"From 'Mormon' to 'Latter': Rebranding the Church Name for the Future"
The reason why the name ‘Mormon’ has become so widespread is that the current policy of using the official name creates practical inconveniences.
Therefore, I propose the name "The Latter Church with Jesus Christ’s Saints."
The abbreviation "Latter Church" succinctly and accurately conveys the church's concept, making it easier to understand and more convenient to use.
Furthermore, "Latter" could potentially replace the use of "Mormon" in the same way we say Catholic, Protestant.
At the very least, the phrase "of Latter-day Saints" in the current name should be replaced with "with Latter-day Saints" as a minor but meaningful improvement.
Adopting a name that reflects the church’s mission while being concise and approachable can bridge the gap between tradition and modernity.
